  1. I like gray for many rooms in a house but don't like the trend for baby or small kids' rooms. I don't think young children are naturally drawn to gray or beige and I think those rooms should be designed more for the kids than the parents.

  2. I definitely understand your thoughts on children being drawn to colors. We decided to go with gray, however, because of the soothing nature of the color. For us, we wanted a nursery where we would feel comfortable, because we knew that this would help our babies as we worked to care for them. So, you are right, that we designed this for the parents as well as the children. When our boy and girl grow, if their likes change, we can alter the room accordingly. As an elementary school teacher, I know only too well how some colors affect children. It is for that reason that I ruled out really bright colors as the majority of the room, because I have seen what it does to the students I teach. That was a personal choice for us, and I know it isn't for everyone. Now, when my children are old enough for a playroom, we will look at bright colors (or even muted pinks, blues, greens, and yellows). Until then, we love our gray!

  3. Sure, of course, it's your house and you should decorate it however you want to. But, in response to the what "bright colors" do to a child idea, my son has a pastel green room I chose when he was a baby, he still likes it at 12 and is a well-behaved and calm straight A+ student so (IMO of course) colors that aren't gray don't make kids crazy or hyperactive.

  4. Oh, I think you totally misunderstood me! I was not saying that colors have any affect on personality or academics. I just know that the mood in my classroom was different when I had my large bulletin boards in some colors. The day I changed the background color (same group of kids), the whole feeling in the room changed too. Because of my past experience, I myself feel more comfortable with certain colors, hence my color choices for our nursery. I put a lot of time, energy, thought, and money into our nursery, and it was a little hurtful to see your original comment. We had to do what was right for us, and it didn't have anything to do with current trends or what is popular.

  6. Dory I think your nursery is perfect. Gray owl is a beautiful color and I love the other pops of color you have added. You have two lucky babies that are loved very much, not to add a mom that has great taste. Thank you so much for sharing your nursery with us. Not everyone has to like the same thing, but if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
